De Wildeman (Wild Man) in Oirschot

De Wildeman first appears in the archives in 1620. At that time, it was not the building that stands there now. To the right of De Wildeman stood another house, called 't Hart House. In 1776, the plots of De Wildeman and 't Hart were merged, and the current Wildeman was likely built at that time. A barn may have been built on the right-hand plot. This occurred during the time when the municipal secretary Arnoldus ter Croije lived there.

It subsequently became the property of two general practitioners and two noble families. In 1832, it appears that they were once again two separate plots of land, which were merged in 1918 into one single plot, which came into the possession of the Oirschotse Stoelenfabriek (Oirschot Chair Factory), founded by several well-known people from Oirschot.

In 1921, the factory (located in the barn) burned down, partially damaging the adjacent buildings. In 1922, some of the buildings were demolished and the current buildings were constructed.

This means that the De Wildeman house will be restored and become the property of tailor Philippart. Later, an EDAH general store will be established there.

The last residents are two generations of Leuven residents, who also ran a baby shop there. After this period, the building was used for restaurants and cafes.
