Kuikeindse Heide
Kuikeindse Heide is a water-rich nature reserve. The Kuikeindse Heide is a nature reserve covering an area of about 220 hectares. Originally, this was a very wet marshland that regularly became flooded when the Groote Beerze (on the west side) and the Kleine Beerze (on the east side) overflowed their banks.
For this reason, this heathland was spared from agricultural developments; it was simply too wet for farming. The two Beerze streams have been channelized (and are being restored to a meandering stream), but the Kuikeindse Heide remains a water-rich nature reserve.
