Canons were members of the chapter, a Catholic governing body that performed many duties in Oirschot, both religiously and administratively and financially. Canon van Leende was also responsible for the construction of St. Peter's Basilica on the Markt.

The current building is a double house with two roofs and was built in the 16th century. The entrance was later designed in the Empire style. It had a very large garden with a pond at the rear, most of which has since been developed into apartment buildings. During the 17th century, Groenenberg came into the possession of the family of the Lord of Oirschot, Sweerts de Landas, who lived there until the Groot Bijstervelt castle was completed.
After that, several famous Oirschot residents lived there, including notaries and mayors. The Oirschot cinema "Luxor" was also located there for a time. Many a young Oirschot resident laughed there at the films of Laurel and Hardy. At the end of the second half of the 20th century, the Oirschot pharmacy was located there. At present it is a private residence once again.
